ABOUT OLLIE TAYLOR

Landscape & Astrophotography:

After practicing landscape photography since 2003, he got hooked on night photography during a month-long travel photography commission in Iceland at the end of 2010, from which multiple tour agencies still use some of the acquired imagery to this day.

Slowly developing his landscape astrophotography technique and trying to retain a natural look to his work, in 2013 he ran his first landscape astrophotography workshops; in early 2014 Ollie quit his 9-5 and entered the realm of full-time freelancing as a landscape astrophotographer, setting up the first structured landscape astrophotography workshops of their kind in Europe, thus rendering him amongst, at the time, a very small group of the first landscape astrophotography tutors in the world.

The photography workshops provide photographers with the opportunity to learn night sky photography techniques whilst located within a traditional rural or coastal landscape photography environment with many tours over the last five years now also combining daytime landscape photography. The 1-2-1 and group photography workshops offer destinations across the planet.

Ollie has remained fiercely independent, even after the pandemic, which had a devastating effect on many travel-based photographers and tour organisations; he still prefers to work solo than with the larger photographic tour companies and structure his own tours. However, he has worked with and run tours for several external companies such as The Royal Photographic Society, The Royal Horticultural Society and astrophotography workshops in Cyprus for The 6×6 Centre for Photography.

Ollie has been involved in landscape astrophotography before it became mainstream, having already established a string of clients for his landscape and travel photography before the genre surfaced, the early years of his night photography saw him published, and work large-scale commissions for hundreds of clients consistently due to having such a large client framework already in place.

Ollie still works with clients, provides imagery for novel covers and use in multiple books across the globe, and occasionally writes for what few published photography titles remain, alongside website articles, namely writing specifically about night and landscape astrophotography projects and techniques including a more ‘low key’ editing style of the night sky. There have been too many to name but they include major titles, brands and clients such as those listed below.

Unfortunately there was no natural childhood obsession with photography – after dropping and breaking his first Minolta 110 within minutes of his grandfather giving it to him, the passion was always for the great outdoors. Photography has since become a way to try and share the light, land, and atmosphere captured during his escapades on a relentless quest of escapism.
