Description

Aurora Borealis Caithness Scotland

The lights of the Aurora Borealis in Caithness, Scotland, where Dunnet Head Lighthouse can be seen casting its beam into the dancing Northern Lights.

Dunnet Head is a great location to see the Northern Lights, and to visit the Lighthouse by day where, weather permitting, there are views across to the Orkneys.

Dunnet Head Lighthouse was built by the renowned engineer Robert Louis Stevenson in 1831 and manned until its automation in 1989. It is situated on top of 300 ft high cliffs, on a remote moorland peninsula at the northernmost point of the Scottish mainland.
