DORSET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Learn how to photograph the Milky Way with structured night photography field-based tuition, precise global nightscape location and photography planning tuition; additionally, learn a beginners to intermediate post-production workflow in Lightroom and Photoshop on this night photography course.
This nightscape workshop is structured at a steady pace, with the night sky tuition repeated by the group to ensure everyone has a full understanding of how the techniques are implemented to give professional standard images every time, and starts off at complete beginner level and also demonstrates, and has the group participate in, intermediate techniques.Â
Photographers attending the course will need a basic understanding of manual camera settings, but other than that, the workshop is open to all levels of photographer, moving all participants through the fieldwork, planning, and post-editing in unison.
The majority of Ollie’s landscape astrophotography workshops are always planned on dates where optimum visibility of the Milky Way (Galactic Core) is possible, often meaning late, but rewarding nights.
As the moon rises just after the Milky Way Core disappears below the horizon on these August dates, the group will also undertake some moonlit nightscape work.
Fieldwork, planning, and post-editing sessions are all incorporated over the two days; participants will need a camera body with manual and the widest possible lens, longer focal lengths and primes may also be covered (Ollie will discuss equipment upon booking) remote, tripod, warm outdoor clothing and footwear; and a torch, preferably head torch. Certain equipment can be borrowed if not owned.
Group emails are set up, once the group is full, as an ice breaker, and a Q&A platform.
This workshop requires using accommodation not included in the workshop fee (or traveling to the location on the night, please keep in mind an extremely late finish)
A holiday cottage or quiet Airbnb is recommended within a 15/20 mile radius of Weymouth and Portland; the fieldwork can be undertaken in various locations and is chosen close to the time depending on weather, restrictions permitting, the post-production work takes place at a gallery on the Isle of Portland.
Ollie also recommends White Stones Studios on Portland. This is where late lunch and post-production sessions take place. Â
Please contact Ollie for help with accommodation or for further info.
