SANTORINI PHOTO TOUR OVERVIEW
Ollie has spent a number of years in Greece after living in Crete, which led to spending plenty of time on Santorini. Over recent years he has returned to run photography workshops, private group tuition, and 1-2-1s on the island including a five-month stretch in 2017, so he knows the island like the back of his hand.
Ollie will also act as a guide to locations and local culture, as he has a good knowledge and understanding of both the island’s history, and the surrounding islands; on top of knowing where to indulge at some of the best restaurants and tavernas.
This Santorini Photography Workshop will help take your photography to another level, whilst taking in some of the well-photographed and popular iconic landmarks and viewpoints the island has to offer; the tour will also help you discover and photograph lesser-known areas of this unique island.
Not only will you receive help with mastering photographic landscape images in the style frequently associated with Santorini and the Cyclades Islands, but you will also get the opportunity to shoot starlit and Milky Way nightscapes with carefully structured astrophotography tuition, and get help to become fluent in the techniques required to undertake this style of photography. A subject matter that Ollie has become renowned for within the UK, and across Europe; Greece being the first location outside of the UK that Ollie started delivering workshops incorporating astrophotography combined with landscape and travel photography.
Fieldwork Equipment
Full frame, crop sensor, micro four-thirds, and bridge cameras can be used, alongside larger format cameras. There is no age or ISO capability recommendation for this workshop due to there being less nightscape photography than on other workshops, though the camera will need to perform well-rendering shadows due to the nature of low light landscape photography and a minimum ISO capability of 6400 is recommended as the group will undertake one in-depth Milky Way session.
- Camera body
- Multiple lenses with a range of focal lengths from wide to telephoto
- Sturdy tripod
- Remote timer or long exposure bulb control built-in on the timer
- Spare camera battery
- Head torch with a red mode (this is not for night vision, it makes it easier to work as a group, and stops us from blinding one another)
- Santorini is mild to hot during the day in October but can be cooler at night; it may be windy in the day, and showers can occur in October
- A mix of light summer clothes, jackets and a few warm layers for the evenings are recommended, alongside good walking shoes and trainers.
Post-production & Planning Necessities
The group will undertake one or two 2/3 hour post-production sessions naturally covering some nightscape, but also looking at travel and landscape photography editing techniques.
The planning and post-production are critical elements of nightscape photography, and landscape photography, hence they have been included in Ollie’s group workshops since 2014. For those that don’t use Adobe and are using other post-production software suites, it will be up to you to transfer the workflow to your chosen software suite; the second phase of the workflow requires software with layers (ie Photoshop or similar).

- Photoshop (or another suite with layer options)
- A laptop running the above ideally with a minimum of 8GB Ram
- This part of the workshop can be undertaken with no laptop and note writing, though following on a laptop is recommended

ACCOMMODATION & TRAVEL
Transfers
Transfers are made from Santorini airport throughout the day to suit after 12pm as the island is small enough to make multiple airport runs, or collection can be from a hotel in the airport region. Return airport transfers are made between 10:00 and 12:00, or drop off to a local hotel for those staying on.
Accommodation
Accommodation is single occupancy rooms, situated in a quiet and remote part of the island with easy access to Oia and the best sunset spots.
