Description

Old Higher Lighthouse

Built in 1719, Old Higher Lighthouse is a disused Grade II listed lighthouse situated on Branscombe Hill on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. It was rebuilt in 1869 and was finally decommissioned in 1906. Auctioned off, it was bought by Marie Stopes, the palaeobotanist, as a holiday home – she also founded the small Portland Museum located at Wakeham.
