The moon sits high above Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall, Northern Iceland

Located in the northern Highlands of Iceland and off the beaten track, on the Skjálfandafljót river, the Aldeyjarfoss waterfall is beautiful, set in superb basalt columns and falling from a height of 20 meters into an icy cold pool below. Due to its location, not many people get to visit this waterfall, but it is well worth going to.

Aldeyjarfoss drops from the ancient Báðardalshraun lava field, which flowed from an eruption some 9,000 years ago, with the basalt belonging to a lava field called Frambruni or Suðurárhraun,  ‘Hraun’ means lava.
