The Atacama

One of the mountains in the Cordillera Domeyko range of Andes Mountains.

The Cordillera Domeyko range is named after Polish exile Ignacy Domeyko, who moved to Chile  making it his home for the next 50 years, and who made significant contributions to the study of the country’s geography, geology, and mineralogy; he died in 1889. Living in his adopted country, he became dean of Santiago’s University of Chile, and broke new ground for the Chilean education system. The range was named in honour of his achievements.
